My eldest son (Freddie) started school this week. He’s 4 years old. Along with most parents, we had the normal worries: will he like it? Will he make friends? Is his reading/writing ability good enough? Have we done enough to prepare him for school? Most parents worry about “being there” for their kids in this way.
But actually, there’s another big worry that most parents face — physically “being there”. Can I drop him off, pick him up, make the PTA meetings, etc?
Luckily, I don’t have that worry. Working remotely has given me the flexibility to choose my work hours & locations so I can prioritise home and work. For the first time ever I feel like I’m getting stuff done at work but not at the expense of my personal life.
As for Freddie, he’s doing fine.
